Edison PTA understands the wonders of field trips, which is why we are proud to provide (with money raised from you) transportation and expenses for every grade level throughout the year. In addition to how much fun they are, field trips offer many academic benefits to all students at our school, including:
- Hands on learning opportunities - visiting a farm or seeing a live performance at the theater stimulates the senses in a way that cannot be experienced in a classroom alone. Interacting within the environment of a museum or state park offers not only different sensory experiences, but a new understanding that students can access back at school.
- Variety of field trips - Field trips give children a welcome break in routine. Kids can look forward to and prepare for the field trip for several days or weeks. Then they get to spend the day in a different learning environment and can complete a lesson on the topic when the trip is over. Learning in assorted ways can appeal to varied learning styles, helping children succeed whether they are visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learners.
- New experiences - Children learn about different professions, ideas and opportunities when they travel outside their own neighborhoods. A field trip can awaken the desire in a child to try new things and pursue previously unconsidered dreams. Field trips can introduce children to career opportunities, and spark new interests and passions. Whether it's a student's first or tenth field trip, new experiences abound, inspiring our children to take risks and bond with their peers.
- Higher academic achievement - Field trips can result in greater achievement in all subjects. When students see real-life applications of subjects they are taught in school, kids are more likely to understand and appreciate the relevance of what they are learning.
